With over 20 years of experience in the nonprofit, education, and banking sectors, I am a passionate leader and educator who strives to make a positive impact in the community.

As the executive director at Kern Literacy Council, I oversee a staff of three and a network of 70 volunteers who provide free tutoring and literacy programs to adults and children.

I am also an adjunct professor at Bakersfield College and Taft College, where I teach political science courses that cover topics such as American government, California politics, and social advocacy.

Currently, I am completing my doctorate in educational leadership at CSU Bakersfield, with a dissertation focusing on resilience and at-risk youth. My mission is to empower individuals to improve the quality of their lives through literacy education and social justice.

Tutor Training with Kern Literacy Council


This course, "Introduction to Literacy and Tutoring with Kern Literacy Council," is designed for college students to gain a comprehensive understanding of literacy, explore opportunities to volunteer with the Kern Literacy Council, delve into learning theories and effective student engagement strategies, and acquire fundamental tutor training skills.

The course spans three modules, totaling 50 minutes, and covers topics ranging from the significance of literacy to practical tutoring techniques. It emphasizes personalized instruction, active listening, cultural sensitivity, and the importance of fostering a positive learning environment.

Upon completion, students will be well-prepared to make a positive impact by providing literacy support within their community.
